This is the new Thinkpad X1

It's not too often a hardware manufacturer clicks all or most of the right boxes. It looks like Lenovo has with this one. They just need to bring that price down and make it a tablet. They didn't mention the actual keys but they look a bit concave to me which is really nice. I hate all the flat keys on laptops. They just don't feel natural to me. That fingerprint reader is nice to see. It sucks having to re-type your password. I know you can scan your face now too but I rather not.

Scam notice of debt.

A person just asked me to check on this letter that they just received. Obviously something just didn't add up for a couple of reasons. The letter is after so called medical services rendered. There is no mention of what services and where. Second, I know for a fact that this person has not been hospitalized for anything. Third I looked up the company on the top of the page. There is a company with that name, but none of those phone numbers on the letter match any phone number on their website for that company. I decided to call the local office of that company in our state which apparently is also different from where this company is located. They are in Texas which just reminded me of a story I read a while back about some company from Texas suing tech companies about software licensing I think when they were not. Needless to say, this thing just doesn't add up for other reason because the city already has everyone's information and they would contact you directly and not through something like this. The PO boxes are also not in any of their contact pages. In any case I'm posting the letter which comes in two languages so I guess it depends on what you speak. I have taken off the information of that person but I wanted to show you what this looks like. I want people to be aware of these things. I'll also post some other links to pages talking about this particular letter and company. Now I don't know the actual company but I know for a fact that there is something very fishy about this letter. This has also been going on for sometime. I know that there are legitimate collection agencies, but when they are throwing things out like this to see who bites, that's when I have a problem. Because they don't have their facts correct. Not to mention this is for over fifteen hundred dollars. I won't say exactly how much but just to give you an idea. So it's not a few dollars either.

The only other example I can think of is this. We used to get random bills at one company for things I knew that I had not purchased. The good thing was that the accounting personnel would always ask me about anything that they were not sure of. The company was small enough that I only used maybe two or three vendors so we knew what we actually bought for my department. I just told them not to pay any those bills because I knew they were not from any actual purchases. Of course accounting also knows who is buying what and from where. Nothing ever happened because whoever the scammer was would not be stupid enough to come and claim a fake bill. If they did, the police wasn't too far.

In short, anyone can find your information nowadays. Make sure to verify things before even calling any number on anything you get. Specially if you know something just doesn't add up.

Here are a couple of links I have found regarding this type of letter.

What does it really cost to repair a tesla out of warranty, if you can even get the parts or service information.

This is a good look at this because I have a problem with a manufacturer that you can't get the service manual or even any information on fixing your own car if you are knowledgeable enough to do the work yourself. Not to mention companies making cars more disposable. There's nothing more annoying than trying to get a part for a car that has been more reliable than anything, but you can't get the parts to fix it because it's some years older. Now I can understand why that new law about being able to fix things are being written. Why do companies need to be told this is beyond me, but that's where Tesla seems to be with this. It will be interesting to see where this goes.

I think I just found the most interesting router and switch in one pc. Looking at my small router and separate 8 port switch, this would clean things up a bit real nice if I ran my own firewall.

I have always looked for something with more ports, but most routers are usually 4, 6 or 6 ports. This one comes with 10 plus the two on the back. Or you could just use something smaller and just plug into a large switch, but that's not what I have at home, but I could use the extra ports to run less pieces of hardware. If you have more cables than this supports though, you don't want to use this as it gets ugly and heavy with all the cables. That's when things become a nice mess of noodles.

I grew up with this cartoon as I'm sure many others around the world did. Aside from being one of those timeless cartoons I think the best part about many of these cartoons where not just the cartoon characters themselves, but the positive messages these programs had. We always looked forward to them and after they were over, you just felt good. So I hope this catches up again instead of a lot of the junk you see today. I didn't even know that they had made a new movie, but I don't see the English version here in the United States. Maybe there is, I don't know from what I have seen. I do speak Spanish so maybe I can watch that one. In any case, I'm sure many will remember this character.

A sad day...

When I got home this afternoon, my dad told me that my grandmother had passed away, his mother. The last one I had. News like this are always surreal. I got to see her a few years back, she didn't recognize me, but I did and she looked the same to me. I had not seen her for over 20 plus years before that I think. It was nice to see her again, little did I know it was going to be the last time I see her in person again.

Here's a real sample of genetic engineered food. I just saw this the other day when I was looking for some hot chocolate.

I was walking around at the 99 cent store the other day looking for some hot chocolate since it was cold. I like to look at all the sugar and other things that are in what I buy and noticed this on this package. If you don't look at what you are buying, you are probably already eating engineered food. Not that there's anything wrong this cocoa, but I had never seen this in anything before. I like my regular foods and none of that marketing that is used to hike up prices for just good old natural foods. I just thought this was interesting. I know this has been around for a while now, but I had just never seen it myself. If you don't believe me, just go to any 99 cent store here in the USA and pick up some of this cocoa.

Well, that's just scary.

Microsoft edge warning when reading an article from their main page, which oddly enough is full of ads at the bottom.

Firefox still seems to be getting bloated on the memory side so I thought I use Microsoft edge to see if there was any difference. Now I have an ad blocker in one, but not the other. I was just reading an article from edge which I'll post here in a second. While waiting for that video to show, here's a warning that just started automatically in that browser. Oddly enough all their articles on their main page have ads at the bottom. So you can't even read anything without getting all this junk nowadays. At least here in the united states. This is why I don't even bother reading much of the local sites and newspapers. You can't even get through an article without being bombarded with junk and pop ups. The best part is the recording telling you all about it while this displayed on the screen. I thought it recorded but unfortunately the voice didn't. So I'll just show you the error. I did not install any software, I just opened Microsoft Edge, clicked on an article and was reading it. The best part, check out the bad grammar on the text. Why would Microsoft let these ads or adware play is beyond me.

Introductory programming classes.

I thought this was an interesting article. The only programming class I took when I was at the university was a C++ course. I can say that I have to agree with the writer here. That class was like putting a non Chinese speaking person in a Chinese class. I'm using this as an example of course, but if you have never done anything with any sort of programming, this is what you end up with. It was an interesting class, but I barely made it through. This is definitely a class you don't want to start with as a beginner. This is how I found out programing just wasn't for me.  I guess the point with anything is that you have to find a way to start an introducing any subject in a way that's a little less confusing and intimidating and work from there. I think programming is one of those things, you either like it or you don't. And if you're not careful you can really turn people off from any subject no matter how good you are. I always thought about making video games, I used to like them a lot growing up, but then all the programming languages just didn't make sense to me back then which was a lot different than today. I got better at other things though. I even learned HTML. But even now, there are faster and easier ways to make pages without all the nitty gritty of me having to code each page.
