XCP-ng Installation

May 13, 2019

I had xenserver installed and the latest update would not go through. I was trying to decide how to go about this. As I was reading I found this new fork called xcp-ng which basically keeps all the features open that have been required to have a license in xenserver. So I thought I give it a try since it was supposed to allow me to just upgrade my old xenserver. In short, it works. I did run into a few minor issues but that had to do with my hardware as my server is just a test server and I needed to make some bios changes in order to get it working. Here is the process and my fails while trying this upgrade.

I finally realized that waiting at this screen wasn't going to do anything. So if you get this far and nothing happens, then you need to check your bios settings.

This is the error I kept running into. I thought it was the boot this that was causing the problem here, but it wasn't.

I started making some changes on the bios in order to see if I could make this work.

I finally found the correct bios settings here that made this work.

Here you can finally see the start since it automatically went to the installer and everything took the full screen. So if you see the smaller text, that may be a clue that something is not working. I finally was able to upgrade my xenserver to xcp-ng. I still haven't played with it too much, but as you can see it worked.

Here's the xcp center once I got it installed.

 There is an update already.

I did get these two errors when I tried to click back on some of those lower left options to go back.

I forgot what I clicked on here, but I was just trying to go back a page I think it was. So there are still a few minor things I guess. Overall, the installation went pretty well once I sorted out the bios issue.
