Why does Java want to install this other junk is beyond me.

Next time you have to install Java, make sure you look at it carefully as they also include this junk toolbar. Make sure to uncheck this and then proceed. Other adware will look like the java program too, but it's not so unless you downloaded the java from the actual oracle website it's probably not the one you want.
