RYX 400A FeelPower car battery jumper

February 5, 2018

I have had to take out the battery out of my car to recharge it a few times because it's been getting low from sitting around. I got tired of that and I found these new type of jump starters. So far they seem to work. Just make sure you get something for your type of car. I don't think some of the smaller ones have enough power to jump a larger car. I have to say that the jumper is the one item I feel pretty good about buying. Not having to pull up another car feels pretty nice, or having to wait for someone else. You can find all types and sizes everywhere now. Some are more affordable than others and they work just as well.

I wanted to write some of the pros and cons of the car jumper I got. So here's what I think about this jumper and the videos of it.

Pros:

-I was looking for an affordable but durable jump starter. But also one that would work on my small cars.  I found this one is both.

-It comes in a nice little case with foam and no logos which I like. This makes it more stealthy so no one knows what it is until you open it.

    -Small and rugged profile.

-Dual lights. A flashlight and side light which you can turn on separately or both at the same time. The flashlight is nice and bright, the side lights, not as much but still should work anywhere that’s dark. My thought was to use that for changing a tire if you’re stuck out somewhere in the dark.

-The metal case and rubber around it should keep it safe. This also makes it a bit heavier than most plastic on other jumpers. Just make sure not to leave it in a very hot car as these type of batteries could get very hot in a metal casing like this one and that’s not a good thing. But that’s what I like about it. It won’t break too easily on me I hope.

-I like the square clamps and the fact that they are fully covered in plastic so even if they touch, you can’t have any shorts. They also have that safety feature, but I still like having them covered like they are. Again, they are plastic so only time will tell how long they last.

-The usb charging cable is nice and long but also has a nice red detail on each connector which I have not seen before and it just looked very nice to me. And it seems to be of good quality and not just any thin usb cable.  I can use the same cable for charging this battery pack on my computer, but if I flip it, I can use it to charge my phone from the other usb port since the phone has a micro usb. That worked out great. Thankfully my phone battery is usually pretty good so I won’t be using this for that.

-I really like the more compact jumper cable diodes case or whatever they put in there that is in-line and at the end of the cable. These seem to be so large in some other jumpers that they just look ugly. Not to mention they may also be in one side of the cables making that even more cumbersome.

Cons:

-The instructions still need a bit of work to be easier to understand. I’m still not sure if I can also use the micro usb to power anything since it says that it’s an input.

-The jumper cables could be a tiny bit longer to give you a bit more room to work with, but then that would also make it more bulky and heavy. You just can’t win them all.

-I noticed the clamps hinges are plastic. I don’t know how long that will  last, but I would like to see those made out of metal instead.  I like to take care of my things, but you just never know. I saw some videos that mentioned these type of clamps would break if you opened them too much. Only time will tell so be careful about that when using them.

-The cigarette lighter adapter is a bit shorter than the usb cable and I wished it was a bit longer like the usb cable. So far it’s also nice and small. Most of these are usually very bulky but not this one which is nice.

-The big one. The cover for the jumper cables needs to be able come out a little farther. I had problems with it getting in the way when I was plugging the jumper cables. The only way this worked was for me to fold it down and hold it with a finger so that I could then plug the jumper cable. The cover works fine, but it just needs to be able to move more so that it doesn’t end up getting stuck between the plug and the battery pack which it did for me. So it can get in the way of your plugs if you’re not careful.

-I didn’t even know anything about the pack beeping and then when it did it while testing, I had no idea what the heck it was doing. I then found the reset button, but then I read one of the images that if you press it for 3 seconds then it will go back to normal. Good thing that it also worked when I only did a quick press. The lights kept blinking on me but it let me start the car, so I’ll test the 3 second press next time to reset those lights. I only had one solid light when I first plugged it in until it started beeping so this makes sense now.

Other notes:

-The attention to detail on this unit is great. Well packaged and very compact. Even the logo looks really nice. The rubber around the jumper feels great. The white letters are nice and clear. This also means that it may not work for all vehicles, but should be fine for smaller cars. I have already tested it on my four cylinder car and know that it worked. So I’m very pleased with it and I can say that this is one of those rare purchases that I actually feel good about making. No more taking out the battery and walking a bit to get it charged again. That got old pretty fast. The manual does state that it should work on 3 liter and smaller engines and 2.5 liter diesel.

-I hope they can make a larger version similar to this one for larger vehicles. One of my brothers said that he liked it but he needed a larger one for his 4.7 liter truck. This one won’t turn that thing in the freezing cold where he lives from what I hear. So that’s why it needs to be rugged just like this one.

-I guess the only other improvement on this could be to sink the flashlight glass into the body so it’s not easy to hit if it falls to the ground.

-I’m not crazy about the green color myself, but that’s just me. Well, at least there are two colors to choose from but maybe just adding a few other colors would be nice. I like my subtle colors, but that’s just me.
