Activeon camera

December 13, 2017

I decided to get this camera as my old one is well, old. This one is also affordable so you're not paying an arm and a leg for a small sport camera that you can use and not feel bad if something does happen to it. By this I mean actually using it for sports where you could drop it a few times. I don't have too many pictures of this one as you will see there's not much to it.

This one comes in this small box. In the video I was referring to the packaging I saw about other videos that showed a round plastic packaging. I guess they changed it and that's a good thing. This keeps it nice and compact. I think the round packaging was for the European market.

All the specifications.

And everything you actually get in the box.

I updated the firmware on mine before using it and this is what you will see. It's nice to be able to update the camera.

Here's the old and the new camera next to each other.

Although there is a pretty good difference, I found that making videos on my desk with this one was still a bit of a challenge if you have to look at the lcd. It's just too small and it's better for just pointing the camera where you want it to. On my desk things where just to close with my mini tripod, so it depends on your use. It should be fine with everything else or how far you actually place it. I'm still waiting for some adapters to try it a bit farther out.

I like the ability to do time lapse recordings on it. I haven't tried it but that looks pretty interesting. I have not tried the time lapse recording and it works great, as long as you're not using the wifi. The wifi works better than the wifi on my car dvr so this was nice. I have something to compare that with now. I have also made a video but I have to apologize since it was cold and I wasn't feeling so great that day. I was getting tongue twisted and just sounded pretty off that day, but I wanted to get the video done. At least I think I cover the most important parts there.

If you want to check out what they have this is their site. I have nothing to do with them but I thought I point you in the right direction. So far I do like this smaller size than my old one as it's also lighter, which means I can now use my old suction cup holder which just wouldn't stay put with the old camera as it was just too heavy for it. I tried it on this and and it works fine.

Update January 5, 2018

Pros:
-The smaller size which equals less weight.
-Cost
-Wifi
-Changeable face plates if you really want to do that.
-Plenty of settings and pretty straight forward setup.
-Firmware updates - it's nice to be able to update the camera if there is a problem.

Cons:
-The app still needs a bit of work, but once they get that working I think this will be just fine for what I need it. I just like to have something small to record videos at home.

-Mounts - you only get two but you don't get any mounts to use it out of the protective case, which is how I mostly use it. I'm waiting on some other adapters and will make a video once I get those. These mounts are not compatible with other mounts I have.

-The camera seems to get a little warm but hasn't been a problem yet.

-I also felt like the battery lasted a bit less than claimed but I'll have to use it a bit more to check that. I may have had the wifi on and that may have cut that time down too. So not necessarily a con but something to watch for.

Other:
-Support - I emailed them the problem I had with it, but never heard back. So this is something I have yet to get a feel for. I read about people emailing them and never hearing back from the company. So far I like the camera but they'll have to get on this to complete the package. They seem to be a newer company so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and see how this gets over time. This is another reason I bought this one, they are supposed to be here in California as well. So we'll see.
